Gentle Post-Birth Recovery Care

Holistic, Doctor-Led Postnatal Support

Having a child is one of the most transformative experiences a woman can go through. Whether it’s your first baby or your fourth, the postnatal period can be both extraordinary and deeply challenging — physically, emotionally, and psychologically.

NHS postnatal checks are usually offered around 6 weeks after birth, but these are often brief and may not provide the time or space needed to fully process your experience or discuss the impact on your body and mind. For some women — particularly after a difficult or traumatic birth — this check can feel too soon or even re-traumatising.

FIND OUT MORE ABOUT CLINIC51

At Lodsworth Clinic, in collaboration with Clinic51, we offer post-birth consultations with Dr Leah Deutsch, Consultant Obstetrician & Gynaecologist. Leah has a special interest in birth trauma, alongside extensive experience in women’s health, and brings a holistic, individualised approach to care. As both a doctor and a mother, she understands the importance of compassionate support during this stage of recovery.

What’s Included in Your Post-Birth Consultation

Each appointment lasts up to 1 hour and is led by your individual needs. It includes:

  • A comprehensive physical review

  • Discussion of your pregnancy and birth experience

  • Exploration of how your emotional recovery is progressing

You may wish to talk through pregnancy complications such as high blood pressure, gestational diabetes, obstetric cholestasis, significant blood loss, or perineal tears. There is also time to ask questions about how these experiences might affect your current health or future pregnancies.

Above all, the consultation gives you space to focus on your own concerns, at your own pace.

When to Book a Post-Birth Consultation

New mothers are welcome to attend from just a few weeks post-birth. For many, though, finding the time and energy for an appointment in those early months can feel overwhelming. You may not feel ready until later — often around the 6–12 month mark, once life feels a little more settled.

Recovery after birth is an ongoing process, and your needs may change as your child grows or if you begin thinking about future pregnancies. Dr Leah Deutsch is also happy to see women several years after birth, if you feel that would be helpful.

If you’re unsure whether now is the right time for you, please don’t hesitate to get in touch — we’re here to support you.
