Menstrual Health
Holistic, Doctor-Led Menstrual Care
1 in 20 women aged 30–49 consult their GP each year about menstrual disturbances, and many more suffer in silence. Having heavy, painful, irregular or absent periods is not normal, and for a large number of women these symptoms cause disruption and distress in many areas of life.
Some irregularity is expected when periods first begin, but when symptoms persist – impacting education, work, or daily wellbeing – they deserve proper assessment and support. Hormonal changes can also affect cycles at different stages of life, with fluctuations not just month to month but across decades.
At Lodsworth Clinic, we are proud to collaborate with Clinic51 to offer specialist consultations with Dr Leah Deutsch, Consultant Gynaecologist. Leah brings extensive experience in managing a wide range of menstrual health conditions, including:
Uterine fibroids
Endometriosis
Adenomyosis
Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS)
Hypothalamic amenorrhoea
Premenstrual syndrome (PMS) / Premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD)
Premature ovarian insufficiency (POI)
Pelvic inflammatory disease (PID)

When to Book a Consultation
Menstrual health issues can be complex, but they should never be dismissed. In collaboration with Clinic51, Dr Leah Deutsch provides attentive, consultant-led care that combines compassion with clinical expertise. Below are some of the menstrual symptoms & disorders we can support you with.
-
PCOS is a common condition that often runs in families and can affect menstrual regularity. It may also cause symptoms linked to higher androgen (testosterone) levels, such as facial or chest hair growth, acne, and difficulty losing weight.
There is no cure, but with a clear diagnosis we can explore the best management options for you and support you in gaining better control of your symptoms.
-
Hormonal changes around the menstrual cycle can sometimes cause significant mood symptoms, from low mood and anxiety to irritability or difficulty coping day to day.
While these experiences are common, they should not be dismissed. With the right assessment and management, there are ways to better understand and improve how hormonal shifts affect your wellbeing.
-
A heavy period is considered one that disrupts your daily life; physically, socially, or emotionally. This might include needing to double up on sanitary protection, leaking, or passing clots.
While sometimes a cause can be identified, for around half of women no clear reason is found. Even so, by ruling out treatable conditions and exploring management options, there are effective ways to improve quality of life.
-
Too often, women with painful periods have been dismissed or told this is “normal.” In reality, pain that disrupts daily life should be assessed and treatment options explored. This may or may not occur alongside heavy bleeding.
Endometriosis and adenomyosis are two common conditions that can cause period pain. Clinic51 does not offer surgical treatment for endometriosis, but onward referral to subspecialty services can be arranged if needed.
