Cervical Screening

Holistic, Specialist Cervical Screening

Routine screening is a powerful tool — yet many experience it with anxiety, discomfort, or uncertainty. Having a cervical screen in a calm, expert-led environment can make all the difference. At The Lodsworth Clinic, we partner with Clinic51 to deliver cervical screening care that is compassionate, efficient, and tailored to you.

While screening is offered by the NHS at regular intervals, many women prefer a private, more personalised appointment that offers extra time, expert guidance, and a comfortable setting.

Why Choose Private Cervical Screening

Many women prefer to have their cervical screening in a calm, private setting where they feel fully supported and unhurried. At The Lodsworth Clinic, screenings are carried out by Harriet Jacobs, Contraception & Women’s Health Specialist, offering a more personalised and reassuring experience.

With private screening, you can expect:

  • A longer appointment with time to discuss your history, concerns, and any symptoms.

  • A gentle, professional screening in a quiet, comfortable treatment room.

  • Clear explanation of the process from start to finish, so you feel informed and at ease.

  • Your sample analysed by a specialist laboratory with clear, timely results.

  • Thoughtful guidance on next steps or follow-up if needed.

  • Full control over when you book — without waiting for an NHS recall.

Private screening gives you space, time and clarity — with a clinician dedicated solely to your comfort and wellbeing.

FAQs

  • Cervical screening (sometimes called a “smear test”) checks the health of the cervix by taking a small sample of cells. It is one of the best tools we have for preventing cervical cancer or detecting it early.

  • You’ll be asked to undress from the waist down, lie back on a bed with knees apart, and a speculum will be gently inserted so a small brush can collect cells from your cervix. The test itself takes under five minutes; the full appointment will include time for questions and recovery.

  • No — private cervical screening does not replace your routine NHS recall. The NHS will still invite you at the usual interval. However, many women prefer to have their screening carried out privately, where appointments are longer, the environment is calmer, and results and next steps are explained with more time and support. Choosing a private screen allows you to stay fully in control of your own timetable and ensures you can book at a time and pace that feel right for you.

  • Yes — if you have a screening invitation while you are pregnant, it is generally safe. However, your clinician may advise waiting until after your baby is born if your risk is low and you prefer to postpone.

  • It’s very common to feel nervous. You can bring a companion, ask the practitioner for a smaller speculum or alternate positions, or ask for extra time. We are committed to making the experience as comfortable as possible.

  • Not all abnormalities mean cancer. Some may resolve on their own or require closer monitoring or referral to colposcopy. Your practitioner will explain what your particular result means and what the next steps are.
